These are some photos that I took the other day whilst walking my dog along the coast of Cala Conta, Ibiza. What I enjoy about sea-side photos is that no two are alike, and the same cove can look so different from one point of the day to the next. I personally prefer the first two photos where the sea is in turmoil because I usually only take picturesque photos of serene sunsets, which I think sometimes can look too much like they were taken straight off of a postcard, whereas these photos show the more forceful, turbulent side to the ocean.

This is a little sketch I did a few weeks ago based on a tattoo design I found of a rose. The design also featured skulls but I thought I'd done enough sketches of skull/flower combinations so I decided to just enlarge the rose and get as much detail as I could into it. It was really useful to practice my shading and will hopefully get me back into sketching more often.
This is a little collection of the messages people have left on walls around London and Brighton recently. My personal favourite is the one on the left as it shows ingenuity, dedication and an interesting comment and understanding on Brighton's gay scene, subtly put forward in the form of art. Like a poetic Banksy. (I'm obviously joking, I took a photo of it just because it had the word "ass" in it even before I noticed the rest of the message) I always keep an eye out for things that people write and draw on walls as it can often be the most interesting. Take the girls toilets at Sussex University Library: never have I seen such political activism on the side of a toilet roll dispenser in my life. Whoever it is that goes into those toilets armed with a pen and pure passive-aggressive rage you have given me some of the most thoughtful wees of my life. So it's been a little while since I updated my blog, and now I have quite a lot of catching up to do ( ie.: two months worth of photos) so it's lucky that I have lots to photograph at the moment! The reason for my lack of dedication recently has been exams. The only thing I was using my computer for was for last-minute cramming, stalking other people's stress-free lives and, occasionally, crying into... Anyway, today's entry features Brighton University's final year fashion show which I attended in London a few weeks ago. This show was a continuation from the photos I took a few months back featuring Liz Russell's preliminary ideas for her range of male clothing based on the archetype of the "trickster" ( seeDay 63: GUEST ARTIST: Elizabeth Russel, work in progress. for more info on this) of which you can see an example of in the photo below on the right. All the clothes were of amazingly high quality and the styles were varied and interesting, with a brave experimentation of shapes and forms which clashed with the conventional female/male figures. However, as I was stuck behind a row of equally eager photographers my snaps aren't as fantastic as I would have hoped, but at least the shots show some of the movement of the clothing. Overall it was a fascinating display and inspiration enough for me to kickstart my blog again! |
